Carlos Montenegro of Santiago High School has been chosen to spend a year as the nonvoting student representative to the Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education.
The 17-year-old senior from Santa Ana was selected following candidate interviews conducted by high school student body leaders. He succeeds Sun Choo, a Pacifica High School graduate who attends UC Berkeley.
As the new student representative, Montenegro will be the chairman of the Board Representative Committee, the student advisory organization that serves as liaison between the district’s 47,500 pupils and the five-member Board of Education.
