PREP ROUNDUP : Corona del Mar Doubles Up Sunny Hills

After a shaky start in its singles matches, sixth-ranked Corona del Mar came back in doubles play to beat No. 10 Sunny Hills, 12-6, in nonleague girls’ tennis Wednesday.
Ann Yelsey and Nicole Charney led the way, winning their sets, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0.
Sunny Hills came out strong with three victories by sophomore Joanna Kao, who edged the Sea Kings’ top singles player, Nadia Vaughn, 7-6. She went on to win her other two matches, 6-0, 6-0.
Corona del Mar is 2-3 and Sunny Hills is 3-2.
In other nonleague girls’ tennis:
No. 6 Newport Harbor 18, Los Alamitos 0--Kristen Case won her singles sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, for top-ranked Newport Harbor (4-0). Los Alamitos was forced to forfeit three sets when No. 1 singles player Tara Siddiqui was unable to play because of a shoulder injury.
Brea Olinda 14, Sonora 4--Kelly Scanlan swept her singles sets, 6-2, 6-2, 6-0, to improve her record to 15-0 for Brea Olinda (5-0).
Los Amigos 13, Anaheim 5--Veronica Sommers lost just two games while sweeping her singles sets, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, for Los Amigos (5-0).
In Orange League girls’ golf:
Western 156, Downey 164--Kristie Park shot a 48 to lead Western on the par-35 Dad Miller course. Teammate Audra Ratajczak was second with a 49.
In nonleague girls’ golf:
Mission Viejo 124, Aliso Niguel 128--Kelley Suzuki and Patty Doherty each shot 10-over 41 at Casta del Sol for Mission Viejo (2-1). Candy Lin shot a 40 for visiting Aliso Niguel (2-3).
Valencia 113, El Dorado 152--Nikki Glowin shot a 36 at par-29 Brea, one better than teammate Jennifer Perales, to lead Valencia (4-0).
In Sunset League boys’ cross-country:
Esperanza 15, Marina 42--Ryan Busque finished in 15:01, a dual-meet course record at Yorba Regional Park, for Esperanza (1-0).
In nonleague boys’ cross-country:
Katella 18, El Dorado 37--Albert Rosel, Danny Mejia and Tony Lozano crossed the finish line together in 16:33 to take first on the three-mile course at Katella.
In Sunset League girls’ cross-country:
Esperanza 20, Marina 41--Maribeth Buche finished second in 19:35 at Yorba Regional Park to lead Esperanza (1-0).
In nonleague girls’ volleyball:
Mater Dei 3, Long Beach Poly 0--Liz De Lancelotti had nine kills and Jennifer Ward had 29 assists for No. 4 Mater Dei in a 15-3, 15-7, 15-8 victory.
In nonleague boys’ water polo:
Saddleback 11, Santa Ana Valley 4--Art Colchado had 15 saves, Julian Gonzalez scored five goals and Daniel Noon scored three for the Roadrunners (3-1), who took a 4-1 first-quarter lead. Santa Ana Valley is 6-2.
Servite 12, Marina 4--Senior Dane Jensen had five goals and sophomore Vincent Bevin scored three to lead No. 4 Servite (2-0).
