COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT / USC : Ankle Sidelines Hayes
- Share via
Receiver Windrell Hayes’ recovery from a right ankle sprain is ahead of schedule, but that won’t help USC on Saturday because Hayes isn’t making the trip to Oregon.
“We’re leaving him home,” Coach Paul Hackett said. “We want to let him rest and prepare for next week.
“I’m tempted, very tempted [to have him available on the sidelines], but we decided not to. I guess probably I don’t want to get tempted. We want him to get all the way back. Right now he’s doing great.”
Freshman Kareem Kelly, USC’s leading receiver after two games, will take Hayes’ spot.

The Trojans also will be without tailback Malaefou MacKenzie, their most effective short-yardage back, because of a hamstring injury that will cause him to sit out a second consecutive game.
Other players who are out include fullback Chad Pierson (ankle) and cornerback Tanqueray Clark (ankle).
