Monroe Picks Off Cleveland, 33-29

Gabe Figueroa intercepted an Eddie Whitaker pass with 2:05 to play to seal Monroe’s 33-29 victory over Cleveland in a nonleague game Friday night at Monroe.
DeAndre Phillips ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns in 12 carries, and Tyrone Burwell ran for 159 yards as the Vikings (3-0) amassed 489 yards.
James Bethea gained 207 yards in 13 carries, including touchdown runs of 90 and 49 yards for the Cavaliers (1-2). Whitaker completed nine of 14 passes for 147 yards, including touchdown passes 58 and 26 yards.
Monroe’s Folaji Akinbayade caught five passes for 130 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown.
Cleveland’s James Thaemert suffered a pelvic injury and was taken by ambulance to Kaiser Permanente in Panorama City.
