Sophomore Lorenzo Booker rushed for 182 yards, and Michael Spargo threw two touchdown passes and ran for another to help St. Bonaventure High defeat Nordhoff, 25-7, in a nonleague game Friday night at Nordhoff.
St. Bonaventure (3-0), which has the fifth-ranked defense in the Southern Section, limited the Rangers (1-2) to 28 yards in the first half, including only one play of more than five yards. Nordhoff finished with 92 yards.
The Seraphs scored on all five of their first-half possessions, marching 80 yards in six plays late in the half to take a 25-0 lead.
“The key to the victory was our defense,” Coach Jon Mack of St. Bonaventure said. “We played extremely well in the first half. We got a little tired in the second half, but we persevered.”
Spargo completed 12 of 15 passes in the first half, including touchdowns of 17 yards to Adam Gray-Hayward and 13 yards on a shovel pass to Brandon Mascorro.
Booker rushed for 97 yards in the second half.
Nordhoff was led by Jessie Hawkins, who rushed for 75 yards. The Rangers scored on a 28-yard pass from John Hill to Jon Hall in the third quarter.
