Museum Plans Talk About Ancient Bones

A Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History curator will lead a discussion Monday about the discovery of Arlington Springs Woman, who inhabited Santa Rosa Island and is the oldest human skeleton discovered in North America.

The 13,000-year-old bones, which have rested in the museum’s storeroom since they were discovered in 1959, are significant because they lend credence to the theory that migrants to the continent arrived earlier than previously thought, probably via coast-hopping boats.

The discussion begins at 7:30 p.m. in Fleischmann Auditorium at the museum.

Admission is $4 for museum members and $6 for nonmembers. For more information, call 682-4711.
