Kenneth Charles Jones, 86, a longtime photographer for the Las Vegas Sun who covered famous visitors to the city and everyday residents. During his tenure at the Sun, which ran from Jan. 1, 1954, until his retirement in 1996, Jones served as chief photographer and photo editor. After his retirement he remained a consultant and, for a while, continued his man-on-the-street photo column, “Street Talk.” He covered famous events and famous people, including first lady Eleanor Roosevelt, President John F. Kennedy and Elvis Presley. Twenty years ago he boarded a helicopter and shot aerial photographs of the MGM hotel fire that killed 87 and injured hundreds. Born in Akron, Ohio, Jones attended Kent State University for two years. His first newspaper job was for the Evening Record and the Courier-Tribune, which served Kent and Ravenna, Ohio. On Thursday at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas.
