Residents of Lantern Village are gathering signatures and writing City Council members in opposition to a conceptual plan to replace most of La Cresta Drive with a greenbelt and beautify much of the remaining area.
So far, several hundred signatures have been gathered on a petition that will be presented to the council at its next meeting on April 11.
Aside from traffic, residents are also concerned about parking problems, project costs and a belief that the city had begun planning without sufficiently informing the public.
City Manager John B. Bahorski said La Cresta was selected because of its central location in the neighborhood.
