Re “South Carolina Senate Moves to End Stalemate on Confederate Flag,” April 13: I can’t believe the South Carolina legislators are dragging themselves through so much agony over how to respect both the heartfelt passions of those who feel that the old Dixie flag symbolizes the best of the South and the equal passions of those who see it as a reminder of the worst of the South--it’s obviously both--when the solution is staring them in the face.
They simply have to pass a resolution stating that on odd-numbered days (or when the observer sees fit) the flag will be flown upside-down.
