LOS ANGELES — A man who was killed over the weekend defending himself during an assault at the Rosa Parks Green Line station was identified Wednesday, sheriff’s officials said.
Carl Hays, 48, was shot at 3 p.m. Sunday during an attempted robbery, in front of other Green Line passengers on the platform at Imperial Highway and Wilmington Avenue in the Willowbrook area, said Sgt. Norine Plett of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Division.
Hays was later pronounced dead at a hospital. He was the first homicide victim on the county’s rail system, authorities said.
The suspect was identified as Gary Sexton Jr., a 19-year-old Los Angeles man, who was hospitalized with stab wounds.
