Clinton to Push Anti-Gun Strategy

President Clinton is taking a new tack in the fight against gun violence by asking Congress for $280 million to hire 500 more ATF agents and expand a system to track firearms through ballistics tests, officials said. The president was to announce the program today in Boston. People familiar with Clinton’s plan, speaking on condition of anonymity, said he would ask Congress to hire more Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents and for money to improve federal investigators’ ability to use ballistics testing.
