Representatives of the nation’s largest group of black doctors, speaking in Washington, accused the managed care industry of excluding them, reducing black patients’ choice in selecting physicians of a similar background. But the 13 black doctors said they have only anecdotal data to support their charge. A UC San Francisco study showed that nonwhite doctors were no more likely than white doctors to be denied or terminated from HMO contracts and that nonwhite doctors took part in HMOs in the same or greater numbers than white doctors.
