SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO

What started as a project to decorate the San Juan Capistrano Women’s Club clubhouse has become an emblem of city history, said club spokeswoman Bonnie Snyder.
Ten women worked 18 months to knit a quilt of 20 panels depicting Mission San Juan Capistrano’s bells and swallows, the Hot Springs Dance Hall, the sea cliffs of Dana Point and other local features.
Club historian Janet Hammel took pictures of landmarks, which were used to draw sketches for the panels.
The project decorates a wall of the clubhouse.
