Student farmers at La Habra High School introduced 50 children to cows, pigs and lambs Wednesday during their annual Special Friends Day.
Students from Nuffer Elementary School in Norwalk were bused to the Future Farmers of America school farm to see the animals, go for a hayride and have a barbecue.
“Most of these students are disabled, either mentally or physically,” said Katie Johnson, a 16-year-old sophomore who is raising a lamb. “We take them on a tour around the farm, explaining how we raise our animals . . . they really love the animals.”
School officials said they have invited Nuffer Elementary students to the La Habra High farm for the last 15 years, to show them how animals can be raised despite living in an urban environment.
