A team of Navy and civilian experts at Port Hueneme’s Naval Surface Warfare Center has been awarded the Hammer Award, which honors groups that create processes to make government work better.
The base’s M-SPEC team, which is responsible for keeping the fleet apprised of technical information, developed a Web-based database of technical requirements that reduced production time from 15 days to eight minutes, said Rosanne Carranza, a spokeswoman for the contractor, ITS Corp.
The new process will save the government $7 million during the next five years, Carranza said.
The award, which was created by Vice President Al Gore, was presented by the office of the deputy chief of naval operations for logistics in Washington, D.C.
