SOUTH LOS ANGELES — An 83-year-old woman backed her car through a block fence near her apartment Thursday and came within inches of ending up in her neighbor’s swimming pool, Fire Department officials said.
Authorities said the woman’s car suddenly accelerated in reverse, tore down a neighbor’s block wall and came to rest with its rear wheels dangling over the water.
The accident occurred about 6:45 a.m. in the 15300 block of Ainsworth Street, said Brian Humphrey with the Los Angeles City Fire Department.
The homeowner called 911 and neighbors helped the woman out of the vehicle, authorities said.
The woman complained about neck and back discomfort, Humphrey said. She was taken to Gardena Memorial Hospital in good condition and was released several hours later.
