Motor Officer Still Critical, Comatose

Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Edward Parsons remained in critical but stable condition Tuesday, one day after a driver ran a red light in Aliso Viejo and broadsided Parsons’ motorcycle.
Parsons suffered broken bones, internal injuries and serious brain trauma in Monday morning’s crash, which sent him flying about 60 feet through the air.
Doctors at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center induced a coma Monday in an effort to reduce pressure on Parsons’ brain. Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said the coma could last up to two weeks.
Officials have yet to decide whether to seek criminal charges against Laguna Hills resident Sylvia Steinhardt, 77, who was driving south on Moulton Parkway when she collided with Parsons as he was driving east on Laguna Hills Drive.
