Cheers and hisses greeted Capistrano Unified School District trustees after they decided to disband two of four year-round programs.
Harold Ambuehl Elementary and San Juan Elementary in San Juan Capistrano will shift to traditional calendars starting next year.
The school board’s action Monday will shave $331,000 from the district’s projected $3-million budget shortfall.
Year-round schools cost the district $400,000 to run, with Ambuehl responsible for half of that expense, Supt. James A. Fleming said.
