The Woodbridge High golf team has been disqualified from the Southern Section boys’ finals for playing an illegal practice round before the divisional tournament, Southern Section Commissioner Jim Staunton said Wednesday.
Woodbridge, which finished second at the South Coast Divisional Monday at El Prado Golf Course, played a practice round at El Prado on April 17. Section rules prohibited practice rounds at divisional tournament sites after April 15.
Woodbridge Coach Tracy Roberts blamed himself, saying he read the rule wrong.
“It was a flat-out misinterpretation,” Roberts said. “There was certainly no intent to violate any rule.”
San Clemente, which finished third at the South Coast Divisional, has been awarded Woodbridge’s spot in the finals today at the Saticoy Country Club in Somis.
