This article quotes a candidate for Port Hueneme City Council as referring to that body as “an exclusive executive club without community participation” and commenting on Latino involvement.
I have lived in Port Hueneme for 22 years, have attended every City Council meeting and special meeting, have volunteered in various capacities within City Hall and at city facilities. In addition, I have been involved in various programs and community organizations. There are many individuals who accomplish much more than I do.
As far as exclusivity, I have never contacted a city employee or council member without immediate attention or a call back.
City staff is comprised of people of all races, colors and creed. I have never heard of a derogatory remark toward anyone.
It is simple for someone to deride and denigrate members of our government and community while sitting back and doing nothing.
