Smithsonian Elects to Show Presidential Items

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday opens a huge (more than 900 artifacts) permanent exhibit on the lives and times of U.S. presidents.
Among the highlights of “The American Presidency: A Glorious Burden” are the wooden lap desk on which Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence; George Washington’s battle sword; and the suit worn by Harrison Ford in the 1997 movie “Air Force One.”
Timed-entry passes are required. They may be picked up for free at the museum on the day you visit or ordered in advance ($2.75 per pass and $1.25 per order) via Ticketmaster, tel.
