College District OKs CSUCI Transfer Pact

Ventura County Community College District trustees have tentatively approved an agreement with Cal State Channel Islands that guarantees university admission to local community college students who complete 60 units and maintain a 2.6 grade-point average.
Students admitted under the agreement must also declare a major before transferring.
“We already have transfer agreements with the Cal States and [UC Santa Barbara], but with those there’s no guarantee that a student will be admitted,” said Pat Kistler, a spokeswoman for the college district. “This is a true guarantee.”
Under the proposal, students at Oxnard, Ventura and Moorpark colleges must designate the semester of initial enrollment at the university--which is scheduled to open in fall 2002 if certain conditions are met--and complete all lower-division requirements before transferring.
Students designating a major in heavy demand must also meet supplementary admission criteria for that major.
The trustees are expected to give final approval to the agreement during their Dec. 5 meeting, Kistler said.
