Season May Add Gentry Wrinkles

Making adjustments on the run will be a growing challenge for Clippers as the season goes on. Opponents will have a chance to break down their tendencies, thanks to advance scouting.
For Coach Alvin Gentry and his staff, this will not be easy because of the Clippers’ inexperience.
“We have simplified things a lot more than we would have liked to [already],” Gentry said. “We’ve cut down on the plays that we run. . . . We have to keep things simple until we get a feel of what is going on.”
Gentry, however, does not believe that the Clippers will have it any tougher because they are being scouted more.
“You have guys that are great scouts . . . so everyone knows what everyone is going to run,” Gentry said. “It comes down to just a matter of executing your offense and either going to your second option or creating a couple of wrinkles here and there that you can take advantage of.”

Point guard Earl Boykins, who has been on the injured list because of a knee injury since the start of the season, was not with the team for Wednesday’s game because his girlfriend, Keyan Mathews, gave birth to a son on Tuesday in Cleveland.
