Vancouver (Canada) Hugh Boyd 35, Fairmont 0--Hugh Boyd used a strong running attack and a dominating defense to defeat Fairmont before a homecoming crowd at Cerritos Valley Christian.
Hugh Boyd, behind an offensive line that averages 300 pounds, gained 300 yards in the first half. Fairmont was held to 10 yards in the first half and did not record a first down until midway through the third quarter.
Hugh Boyd quarterback Curtis Connolly rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Davin Breen rushed for 150 yards including touchdowns of 25 and six yards.
Fairmont’s Steven Pham returned the opening kickoff 70 yards to the 10-yard line. However, the Huskies lost a fumble on their second play from scrimmage.
Three plays after the Husky turnover, Connolly picked up a fumbled handoff and raced 78 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead. Connolly scored again 2 1/2 minutes later on a 40-yard keeper around left end.
The Trojans increased their lead to 21-0 midway through the second quarter when Breen scored from 25 yards. Late in the third quarter, Connolly scored his final touchdown on a 55-yard run.
“We were overmatched,” Fairmont Coach Tom Caffrey said. “They average 300 pounds across the front line, and we don’t have a guy over 210. Our guys never quit, but their size was too much for us.”
