Drive-By Victim’s Family, Friends Seek Information

LENNOX — Seeking to learn more about the incident, friends and family of a drive-by shooting victim handed out fliers this week near the location where the 16-year-old girl was killed.

Amber Laskey was fatally shot Sept. 5 in the 1900 block of 112th Street, authorities said. A car pulled up about 7:45 p.m. and opened fire as she sat outside with friends, talking and enjoying the evening.

Since then, the search for Amber’s killers has been ongoing, sheriff’s investigators said. Authorities believe it was gang-related but are unclear if it was a personal attack.

Thalia Laskey, Amber’s grandmother, described the girl as a precocious teenager who started a Bible study group and mentored children. She was a leader in the L.A. Inner-City Mass Choir, a group of about 80 youths known for highly charged performances and work in the community.

When Lori Gonzalez, the granddaughter of LAPD Chief Bernard C. Parks, was slain in a drive-by shooting in May, Amber helped organize a candlelight memorial in her honor, though the two had never met.
