Card Tournament for Make-A-Wish

The ninth annual Sparky Anderson Charity Hearts Tournament will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Thousand Oaks Inn.

Proceeds from the card tournament go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Tri-Counties, which covers Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.

About $60,000 has been raised for the organization through the event over the past eight years, said Shanna Wasson Taylor, a Make-A-Wish spokeswoman.

Make-A-Wish fulfills the wishes of children who have life-threatening illnesses.

The entry fee is $50. A light buffet will be provided, and the tournament winner will get a trophy.
