Duncan Oughton scored 36 seconds into overtime Sunday night to give the Cal State Fullerton men’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over Southern Methodist in the championship game of the FILA Classic at Titan Stadium.
Oughton beat SMU goalkeeper Byron Foss, a Santa Margarita High graduate, after collecting a loose ball in front the goal following a free kick by Brad Dunaway.
SMU (0-2) tied the score late in regulation on Matt Whitely’s header off a corner kick from Diego Walsh. The Titans (2-0) had taken a 1-0 lead in the first half on David Dischner’s shot off a cross from Shaun Huggins.
San Diego also finished 2-0 in the tournament after defeating Rutgers, 3-2, earlier in the day, but Fullerton won the championship based on goal differential.
Chapman 3, Menlo 0--Scott Martino scored two goals a minute apart in the second half to lead Chapman (1-0-1) at home. Kurt Nofziger gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute before Martino extended the lead to 3-0 on goals in the 63rd and 64th minutes.
