No. 3 Woodbridge Beats No. 7 University

Elizabeth Exon swept in singles Monday to help third-ranked Woodbridge defeat No. 7 University, 10-8, in a nonleague girls’ tennis match at University.
Exon, ranked 16th in Southern California in the girls’ 16s, defeated 27th-ranked Megan Biorkman, 6-1, and 15th-ranked Aimee Kim, 7-6.
Biorkman won her other two sets, 6-0, 6-1, and Kim won, 6-0, 6-0.
Woodbridge senior Susanna Lingman, a three-times Times’ Orange County selection and ranked 11th in girls’ 18s in Southern California, played doubles and swept, 7-5, 6-3, 6-1.
The Warriors (1-0) led, 7-5, after the second round.
In other nonleague matches:
Aliso Niguel 13, San Clemente 5--Aliso Niguel won all nine doubles sets and Erin Ivey didn’t lose a game in singles for the Wolverines (1-1).
Los Amigos 14, Santa Ana Valley 4--Michelle Nguyen swept in singles, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, and Ann Dinh swept, 6-4, 7-6, 6-0, for Los Amigos (2-0), which won eight of nine singles sets.
Northwood 12, Irvine 6--Gloriann Lopez swept in singles, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, for Northwood (2-0), which won six of nine sets in singles and doubles.
Rosary 12, Diamond Bar 6--The Royals (1-0) won all nine singles sets, led by Renee Paquillo and Liz Caballero, who combined to lose only five games at the Fullerton Tennis Club.
No. 4 Troy 18, Garden Grove 0--Troy (1-0) only lost three games in singles, led by Aya Sakoda, who won, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.
In nonleague girls’ golf:
Kennedy 152, Lakewood St. Joseph 163--Kim Seelau shot a nine-over 46 for Kennedy (2-0) at Lakewood.
Long Beach Wilson 259, No. 8 Los Alamitos 288--Jamie Oliver shot an 11-over 85 for Los Alamitos (0-1) at Recreation Park and El Dorado.
No. 3 Santa Margarita 127, Long Beach Millikan 151--Megan Mulhaupt had five pars and was medalist with a five-over 41 in the season opener for the Eagles at El Dorado Park in Long Beach.
Alexis Etow, who had a birdie, and Brenda Progar each shot 43 for Santa Margarita.
St. Margaret’s 139, Laguna Beach 156--Taylore McClurg had two pars in a round of nine-over 44 for St. Margaret’s (1-0) at Aliso Viejo.
No. 1 University 125, San Clemente 136--Sunny Lee shot three-over 39 and Angela Won shot 40 for University (1-0) at Rancho San Joaquin.
In the Cerritos Gahr girls’ volleyball tournament:
Los Alamitos 3, San Pedro Mary Star 2--Sara Kroneberger had 24 kills, Drue Wawrzynski had 15 and Meghan Goria 14 for Los Alamitos (3-1), which won the fifth-place match, 18-16, 9-15, 13-15, 15-11, 15-6.
Rosary 3, Villa Park 2--Amy Sarkaria had 16 kills and Marty Marriott and Crystal Tinoco had 15 each for Villa Park (2-3), which lost the consolation game, 15-13, 8-15, 5-15, 15-9, 15-10.
In nonleague matches:
El Dorado 3, Palm Springs 1--Kristin Fernandez had 14 kills and setter Meghan Cochrane had 28 assists for El Dorado (2-0), which won, 15-0, 15-5, 6-15, 15-1.
St. Margaret’s 3, Tustin 0--Kamme Hauser had nine kills for St. Margaret’s (1-0), which won, 15-1, 15-4, 15-11.
In nonleague boys’ water polo:
Canyon 10, Edison 7--Canyon goalkeeper Ian Robertson scored with one second remaining in the third quarter, during which the Comanches outscored visiting Edison, 5-3, to take a 9-6 lead.
Dustin Lozano scored two of his three goals during the quarter for Canyon (1-0).
