Farmer Sentenced for McVandalism
A militant sheep farmer was sentenced to three months in prison for vandalizing a McDonald’s restaurant in a protest that made him a hero in France in the battle against globalization. Jose Bove and his lawyers appealed the verdict, and Bove vowed that prison would not stop him from continuing his battle against multinational corporations and the World Trade Organization, which he claims pose a threat to small farmers, good food and a way of life. The McDonald’s in France was partially dismantled with farm equipment while under construction Aug. 12, 1999.
