With a victory in this nonleague game, Los Alamitos’ John Barnes would surpass Clare Van Hoorebeke to become the third-winningest coach in county history with 191 victories. Barnes then would need 22 more victories to eclipse Dick Hill’s county record of 212. But it is far from a given that Barnes’ team will win tonight. Santa Margarita looks vastly improved in its second season in Division I, with quarterback Matt Dlugolecki and running back Tyler Thompson leading a balanced offensive attack. The game is being televised live by Fox Sports Net 2.
