Three men were injured, one fatally, when they were hit by cars after they stopped on the Orange Freeway and got out to inspect accident damage early Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Poria Razavi, 18, of Irvine and the driver of another car stopped in the freeway’s southbound fast lane just north of Katella Avenue to examine the damage to their vehicles after they collided at 3:20 a.m.
Both men were hit and thrown by a car traveling 70 mph in the same lane, authorities said.
The driver of that car stopped to see what he had hit. He stepped out of his car and was walking toward Razavi when another vehicle hit him as well as Razavi. Razavi, who was dragged along the road, died of his injuries.
The other two drivers were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. They were not identified and their conditions were not released by the hospital.
Traffic investigators are still reviewing the incident, and no charges have yet been filed. The CHP is asking anyone who witnessed the accidents to call officials at (714) 567-6000.
