School Policy on Electives

Re “School Officials Might Rethink Electives Policy,” Sept. 11.
I think the schools are doing a fine job with assigning the exploratory classes. Anyone who has ever worked at a school knows what a scheduling nightmare can be created by 11- and 12-year-olds deciding their curriculum.
Frankly, I’d rather see the counselors and other administrators focusing on the quality of instruction being delivered in the classrooms.
There is also a second and equally important benefit: Students will take classes that they might actually enjoy and may not have ever been exposed to had it not been for the assignments.
Think of the possibilities!
