A key holding penalty late in the third quarter erased a 90-yard touchdown run by Western Christian’s Thomas Sturgeon that would have put the Lancers ahead, 20-14.
Instead, St. Margaret’s (2-0) got the ball back at the Lancer 25 after a short punt, setting up the game’s final score, a four-yard touchdown run by Matt McGraw.
Each team rushed for two touchdowns. Sturgeon led Western Christian (0-2) with 148 yards rushing and one touchdown and Ryan Birtcher led St. Margaret’s with 65 yards rushing and one touchdown.
The Tartans scored a defensive touchdown in the second quarter when Scott Tranter hit Lancer quarterback Cameron Marvin, forcing a fumble. The ball was scooped up by Brent Comerford, who returned it 65 yards for a touchdown.
