The Laguna Beach County Water Board recently adopted a resolution requesting that Laguna Beach delay the utility’s scheduled Nov. 1 merger with the city so the board can pursue ways to remain an independent district.
The resolution, which requests at least 120 additional days, was adopted at the board’s Monday meeting and sent to the city Tuesday.
“We’re hoping the city will consider it in [its] future agenda,” said Renae M. Hinchey, water district general manager.
The district wants to remain independent to preserve local control, Hinchey said.
Additionally, an analysis of the cost savings anticipated from the reorganization is flawed, and ratepayers would be better served financially if the water district remains independent, according to the resolution.
