NCAA Penalizes Texas School

Texas A&M-Kingsville; will forfeit 11 victories from the 1998 football season and lose 12 scholarships, the NCAA announced. The Division II school was punished for breaking academic eligibility rules between 1996 and ’99. A total of 23 athletes, mostly football players, were allowed to play even though they were ineligible, the committee found in a season-long investigation.

Colorado State linebacker Adam Wade will undergo surgery in two weeks to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Defensive tackle Jamie Bennett, who suffered a hip pointer, is listed as questionable for the team’s game at Nevada on Sept. 30.
