There may soon be another Olympic medal in the Johnson family, this one from beach volleyball.
Americans Jenny Johnson Jordan and Annett Davis rallied with a nine-point run today to defeat Cuba’s Dalixia Fernandez and Tamara Larrea, 15-9, and reach the quarterfinals at Sydney.
The victory by the tournament’s third-seeded women’s team set up a quarterfinal match against Japan’s Yukiko Takahashi and Teru Saiki, who outclassed a Czech team in a 15-2 victory.
America’s other entry, fourth-seeded Holly McPeak and Misty May, also advanced today with a tense 15-13 victory over Daniela Gattelli and Lucilla Perrotta of Italy.
