LAPD: Avoid Lawsuits

* Re “LAPD Blames Car Agency Error in Black Doctor’s Arrest,” March 29: It seems that the Los Angeles Police Department trains its officers to respond like automatons, if one is to lend any credence to the statement made by LAPD spokesman Lt. Horace Frank regarding the treatment of Dr. Angelo Gousse: “They can’t just sit on the freeway and call Budget Rent a Car.” How ludicrous! They sat on the side of the freeway long enough to summon helicopter crews and, I presume, backup, as should be the case for such high-risk felonies.
What is more cost-effective in terms of image and potential monetary losses, a patched-through phone call or yet another lawsuit facing the city as a result of the actions of some of those in its Police Department?
