A 22-day-old baby boy was reportedly abducted from his mother by a woman she met at an Oxnard department store, Santa Paula police reported Friday.
Police said Patricia Moldonado, 21, of Oxnard was befriended Thursday by the woman, who said she had a baby the same age. The woman, a Latina in her late teens or early 20s, asked if Moldonado would like to take photos of the children together, police said.
She drove Moldonado and her son Oscar to Santa Paula, where she said her baby was staying, said Santa Paula Police Sgt. Gary Marshall. The woman stopped in front of a home she said belonged to her aunt. She told Moldonado to get out and pick some fruit. When Moldonado got out of the car, the woman drove off with the baby, Marshall said.
Police departments throughout the county, along with the U.S. Border Patrol and customs agents, are on alert for the woman’s green Ford pickup.
Several witnesses saw the woman drive off from the Santa Paula residence, Marshall said.
