From Times Wire Reports
Despite denials of deaths by local authorities, a state-run newspaper reported that a mine accident in southern China killed about 400 people. People’s Daily, the Communist Party’s newspaper, said on its Web site that only three of 400 miners are known to have survived the July 16 flooding accident at a tin mine in Nandan, a village in Guangxi province.
Provincial and mine officials have called the casualty reports fabrications, saying no one was in the mine when the accident occurred.
