Announced by the National Institutes of Health earlier this year, this new site offers information on more than 4,000 federal and private medical studies involving patients and others at more than 47,000 locations nationwide. The database, which is aimed at patients, family members and the interested public, can be searched by keyword or browsed by condition or sponsor. Information includes study titles, sponsors, locations, designs and purposes, eligibility criteria and contacts. Additional resources at the site include a user’s guide, background information on clinical trials and links to related NIH sites. ClinicalTrials.gov will be updated frequently and will remain confidential (no registration is required).
