Failing Our Forests
I would like to express my outrage that the decision for drilling in our beloved national forests will shift from local forest supervisors to the White House if the Bush energy plan passes (Aug. 2). The shift of control from forest supervisors to the nominee for assistant secretary of Agriculture and former timber industry lobbyist Mark Rey is a clear indication that drilling will occur in our national forests. This sneaky provision is another cheap shot that the White House has taken against our natural places as a payback to the oil industry that helped put President Bush into office.
