Council Orders Safety Study of Van Nuys Blvd.

Citing a series of traffic accidents, the Los Angeles City Council ordered transportation experts Tuesday to conduct a study to find ways to reduce traffic speeds and improve safety along Van Nuys Boulevard from Foothill Boulevard to the Golden State Freeway.
Council President Alex Padilla sought the review after a mother and her 3-year-old son were seriously injured July 6 when they were run down by a motorist in front of nearly 40 children at Pacoima Elementary School.
Padilla cited other accidents, including one in which a woman was killed last year when she was hit by a car while crossing the street.
The council directed that the study be completed in 60 days.
