SafeGuard Shows Profit in 2nd Quarter

SafeGuard Health Enterprises Inc., an Aliso Viejo provider of dental and vision plans, said it returned to profitability in the second quarter, earning $310,000, or 1 cent a share, contrasted with a net loss of $1.5 million, or 32 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue declined 11% to $21.5 million.

* Lantronix Inc., an Irvine developer of electronic network device servers, said it lost $4.2 million, or 11 cents a share, for the fourth fiscal quarter, compared with a year-earlier net loss of $80,000. Revenue increased 35% to $16.6 million.

* California Coastal Communities Inc., an Irvine residential land-development and home-building company, reported net income of $4.4 million, or 44 cents a share, for the second quarter, which included a $3.2-million tax benefit. Net income for the same period last year totaled $1.1 million, or 11 cents a share. Revenue grew 77% to $13.3 million.

* Restaurant operator Chicago Pizza & Brewery Inc. of Huntington Beach posted second-quarter net income of $985,000, or 11 cents a share, up from $199,000, or 3 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue climbed 29.4% to $16 million.
