The top five U.S. captain’s picks in the Ryder Cup (U.S. began making captain’s picks in 1989):

1. Raymond Floyd, 1993 (by Tom Watson), 3-1 record by the 51-year-old, the oldest Ryder Cup player in history, spurred U.S. to 15-13 victory at The Belfry.

2. (tie) Tom Lehman and Steve Pate, 1999 (by Ben Crenshaw), 2-1 record for both players, both winning singles on Sunday, Lehman, 3-and-2, over Lee Westwood, and Pate, 2-and-1, over Miguel Angel Jimenez, to complete biggest last-day comeback in history and a 141/2-131/2 victory by U.S at the Country Club in Brookline, Mass.

4. Lanny Wadkins, 1993 (by Watson), 2-1-1 record, won first two matches--with Corey Pavin--to get the U.S. off to a good start, halved singles match leading off on Sunday because Sam Torrance was injured.

5. Floyd, 1991 (by Dave Stockton), 2-2 record, won first two matches--with Fred Couples--to help U.S. to 141/2-131/2 victory at Kiawah Island, the first U.S. triumph since 1983.
