Airport Gets $10 Million to Soundproof Homes

The Federal Aviation Administration awarded a $10-million grant Friday to Burbank Airport to insulate 372 homes under its flight path, officials said.
The grant will pay for such improvements as soundproof windows and doors, as well as central air-conditioning, weatherstripping and acoustic installation.
Soundproofing typically costs $42,000 a home. Airport officials said their goal is to soundproof 5,400 homes and eight schools in Burbank and Los Angeles by 2015 at an estimated cost of $130 million.
So far, 219 have been soundproofed.
