A 6-year-old boy died Wednesday afternoon from injuries he sustained last Thursday when he apparently crashed on his motorized scooter, authorities said.
Colton Siomkin, 6, of San Juan Capistrano died from brain damage, said Joseph Luckey, supervising deputy coroner with the Orange County Coroner’s Office.
“His family heard him crying, and when they went outside they found him beside his scooter,” Luckey said.
“Nobody saw it happen, so it’s still not clear to us what happened exactly. That’s why we’re doing an examination.”
An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Doctors at Children’s Hospital at Mission in Mission Viejo operated on the boy Friday to relieve pressure on his brain, but the operation wasn’t enough, Luckey said.
The boy, who was using the scooter around 7:40 p.m. Thursday, wasn’t wearing a helmet, Luckey said.
