Pollution Risks

Regarding the Bush administration’s latest moves to roll back environmental standards in order to promote fossil energy production:
Is this administration’s devotion to the energy markets so extreme that it takes precedence over every other consideration? Is the public health now at risk because of this slavish devotion to the energy industry’s wishes?
What long-term health effects and economic effects on the health industry will these policies have? What effect will ignoring new technologies have on research and development in a transforming economy? What is to become of our most sacred wild areas now that their mineral and fossil fuel wealth can be exploited? Where are the American principles to protect the defenseless from harm, to protect the poor from exploitation, to protect some of the beautiful places on Earth from theft?
