Resource Center OKd for South Minnie Street
- Share via
Residents of South Minnie Street, once plagued by a high crime rate, will soon have a family resource center, thanks to $229,500 allocated Tuesday by the Orange County Board of Supervisors.
The city and private developers are renovating a three-block area where run-down apartment buildings line both sides of the street. Two years ago, residents formed a tenants association to pressure the city and building owners to make improvements. The redevelopment program is scheduled to be completed by 2004.
The resource and crisis intervention center funded by the county will temporarily be at Kennedy Elementary School. It will be operated by the Minnie Street Coalition, which comprises residents plus officials from Santa Ana Unified School District, the city and Police Department.
