In the end, it was the Three Stooges who tripped up Patrick Michael Penker.
Over several years, during an identity theft and money-laundering scheme, Penker used variations of the name of the slapstick comedy trio’s fictional law firm “Dewey, Cheetum and Howe” to obtain cashier’s checks from banks.
Penker has pleaded guilty in a Lubbock, Texas, federal court to charges stemming from his one-man operation that bilked $1 million from credit card companies and casinos.
