A man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of murder in the shooting death of a 41-year-old woman who was found dead in his bedroom, authorities said.
Jose Rey, 53, called 911 about 8:40 a.m. to report that he had found a female acquaintance dead in his home in the 1900 block of East Garvey Avenue North, said Cpl. Rudy Lopez of the West Covina Police Department. Rey told police he had last seen her alive about 4 a.m. or 5 a.m. before going to work, Lopez said. The woman’s name was not released because relatives had not been notified, Lopez said.
“There were inconsistencies in his statements that caused a lot of suspicion,” Lopez said.
Rey was booked without bail on suspicion of murder at the West Covina Police Department’s jail. He will be arraigned Friday, Lopez said.
